SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) reminds all members of the public, agencies, organisations, associations, and event organisers to ensure that any celebration or event involving the use of firecrackers or fireworks at the site must be fully cleared within 24 hours after the event, especially in commercial and industrial areas.

In issuing the reminder, SMC Chairman, Clarence Ting Ing Horth, said all remnants of firecrackers and fireworks, including waste, debris, and any related materials, left in public spaces such as five-foot ways, car parks, drains, walkways, road verges, and surrounding areas must be removed by the organiser within the stipulated time.

“This is necessary to prevent eyesores, maintain cleanliness, and avoid drain blockages,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Ting pointed out that non-compliance will result in enforcement action by the council, including the recovery of clean-up costs from the responsible parties.

He added that SMC seeks the cooperation of all organisers and the public in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the community.
