KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) has drawn up an action plan to support the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the furniture manufacturing sector.
Its General Manager, Zainal Abidin Abdullah, said the plan aims to establish a comprehensive, practical, and sustainable framework for the long-term development of SMEs while emphasising sustainability aspects.
“This action plan is designed to address the challenges faced by SMEs and open new opportunities, in addition to supporting innovation and expansion.
“It also ensures that SMEs can compete effectively not only in the local market but also globally,” he said during a stakeholder engagement session at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
He added that the plan focuses on enhancing competitiveness and ensuring the success of the furniture manufacturing sector in the state.
“This action plan involves collaboration among all stakeholders, including government agencies, industry players, experts, and furniture designers, to ensure it remains relevant, practical, and aligned with the challenges and needs of the industry,” he explained.
During this third engagement session, Zainal stressed the importance of refining and strengthening the master plan to ensure its effective implementation.
He also expressed hope that close collaboration and the sharing of ideas among all parties would help formulate effective strategies to ensure the success of the furniture manufacturing sector in Sarawak.
