IGAN: The construction project involving 17 additional teachers’ quarters and supporting facilities at SMK Agama Igan has been completed more than a year ahead of schedule.

Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the project is part of the government’s initiative to provide comprehensive and conducive residential and infrastructure facilities.

“This is in line with the need to offer comfortable and secure housing for teachers,” he said.

Nanta made these remarks during the handover ceremony for the completed project today.

The project, located on a 13.554-hectare site, includes the construction of 17 Class F quarters, along with several other facilities.

These include a rainwater harvesting tank, elevated and suction water tanks, as well as the installation of electrical, ICT and mechanical systems.

The project also involved external works, such as open and covered car parks, concrete pavements, drainage systems, water reticulation, and a sewage system.

Nanta explained that the project was entrusted to the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) of the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia in 2023, under a design-and-build contract valued at RM16.39 million.

“With the handover of this project, it marks a significant achievement in project delivery by JKR Malaysia and the contractor.

“This approach should serve as an example and inspiration for future projects,” he added.

At the same time, he reminded the contractor to remain committed and continue fulfilling responsibilities during the Defects Liability Period (DLP).

He added that JKR Malaysia would continue to monitor the post-handover processes to ensure that all work complies with established regulations and that no issues are delayed.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) cum Jemoreng assemblyman, Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Development) Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim, Federal Secretary for Sarawak, Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan, and JKR Malaysia PPK2 Construction Director, Datuk Ir Jasmi Wahab.
