KUCHING: SMK Kota Samarahan claimed the title at the Second Sarawak U17 Boys Futsal Championship 2025 held from May 10 to 11 at SMK Tabuan Jaya.

The team won the championship after a tough two-day competition featuring top young futsal talent from across the state.

SMK Demak Baru finished as runners-up, followed by SMK Tabuan Jaya in third place, and SMK Semerah Padi in fourth.

Top individual awards went to standout players.

Awang Adli Zhafran (No. 10) from SMK Kota Samarahan was named Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Muhammad Aqhil Hayy bin Azaidin (No. 18) from SMK Demak Baru won Best Goalkeeper award.

Organising chairman, Sylvester Lim, expressed his pride and gratitude as the tournament concluded its second successful edition.

“Finally, the second edition has come to an end! A big shoutout to all the schools who gave their all and emerged victorious in this edition.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of every player, coach, teacher, committee member, and volunteer who made these two days of futsal intense, inspiring, and unforgettable,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today.

He also hinted at exciting developments for the next edition.

“And yes, something new is brewing for the third edition in 2026. Stay tuned!” he said.

Reflecting on the event, Lim said the tournament was not just about competition but about community.

“As the organising chairman, I feel incredibly proud and grateful. These two days were packed with emotions, challenges, and unforgettable moments.

“Seeing the players give their best on the court, the teamwork behind the scenes, and the spirit of sportsmanship throughout – it reminds me why we do this every year.

“It’s not just about the game; it’s about building a stronger youth community through futsal. Here’s to raising the bar even higher next year!” he added.
