BAU: The construction of the new SMK Lake, Bau replacement project has reached 63.45 per cent completion as of Aug 15.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the project involves building 42 classrooms to replace the existing 27, a hostel for 300 students (200 boys and 100 girls), as well as various other facilities including administrative and academic blocks, a surau, dining hall, and support amenities.
Henry said that the full replacement of the school is aimed at enabling a single-session system.
“That’s the idea. This project is being carried out on a design-and-build basis, proposed by the contractor Eden Empire Development Sdn Bhd.
“SMK Lake has around 1,300 students, with 300 staying in hostels while the rest are day students. That’s why this replacement project is timely, as the school has long required upgrading.
“Currently, the physical progress is 63.45 per cent, compared to the original schedule of 75.43 per cent. There is a slight delay of 11.98 per cent, but it’s not a major issue as the project is progressing well,” he told reporters after inspecting the construction site today.
Henry said the original completion date of Dec 15, 2025, has been extended by 41 days with the approval of an Extension of Time (EOT), making Jan 25, 2026, the new target date.
He urged all parties involved to remain fully committed to ensuring the project is completed on schedule without compromising construction quality or student safety.
“I will also continue to closely monitor this project with the implementing agencies, contractor, and school to ensure its timely completion for the benefit of the local community and the advancement of education in Tasik Biru,” he added.
The project cost amounts to RM79.1 million.
