SMK Methodist, SMK Tung Hua crowned U-15 volleyball champions

SIBU: SMK Methodist and SMK Tung Hua captured the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively at the Sibu District Under-15 Secondary Schools Volleyball Development Championship 2025, held at SMK Kwong Hua on Friday.

A statement issued by the host school highlighted that in the boys’ final, SMK Methodist displayed solid teamwork to defeat SMK Tung Hua 25-12, 25-17 (2-0) and secure the championship title.

SMK Kwong Hua finished third, while SMK Sibujaya placed fourth.

In the girls’ category, SMK Tung Hua proved dominant, overcoming SMK Tinggi Katolik 25-11, 25-13 (2-0) to clinch the title.

SMK Methodist and SMK Lanang settled for third and fourth places respectively.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan’s Chairman, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, officiated the closing ceremony.

He said that elevating the sport of volleyball requires the collective effort of all parties to bring it to a higher level.

“I believe all of you have the talent to achieve this. In particular, we are fortunate to have coaches with vast experience and strong leadership in guiding our young players.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to the organisers and all parties involved.

“It is through such close cooperation that we have been able to conduct this championship smoothly and successfully, culminating in a meaningful closing for everyone,” he said.

Meanwhile, SMK Kwong Hua’s Principal, Wong Ling Jiong, said the tournament served as a valuable platform for discovering and nurturing young volleyball talent.

“I believe that through tournaments like this, young talents in volleyball will continue to be nurtured and have the potential to be developed up to the state, national, and even international levels.

“May this championship mark the beginning of excellence for our students in sports, while also producing a generation that is healthy, intelligent, disciplined, and competitive,” he said in his address.
