KOTA SAMARAHAN: SMK Muara Tuang’s recent victory at the 2025 Samarahan Divisional School Sports Council (MSSB) Championship is more than just a sporting achievement.

It is a testament to the school’s commitment to building future leaders through discipline, teamwork and perseverance.

Held at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Stadium, the championship saw SMK Muara Tuang named overall champion following impressive performances by its 65 strong athletic contingent. The team’s success was bolstered by additional honours including Best Boys’ Team in both the Under 14 and Under 15 categories.

Six standout athletes earned the honour of representing Samarahan at the upcoming MSS Sarawak 2025 Championship in Sibu. The selected students, Raindells Wallace Jozie, Aidil Wafi Azli, Mohamad Hanif Ariffin Nazar, Faris Zulkarnain Abdullah, Nur Qayyum Awang Ahmad and Patricia Kulin, are now among the state’s most promising young athletes.

The team collected a total of 42 medals comprising 16 gold, 16 silver and 10 bronze, highlighting not only athletic strength but also the school’s investment in nurturing well rounded individuals through sports.

At the core of this achievement lies the school’s strong support structure. Team manager Rosita Michael Sawong played a key role in ensuring smooth operations and logistics throughout the event. She was backed by a dedicated coaching team led by Keegan Lingga (sprint and hurdles) with support from Mohd Fiqrie Azeem Razali (long distance), Mohamad Noor Adha Mohamad Fadzil (long jump and triple jump), Che Siti Nurfadiela Che Ismail (high jump), Catherine Ngana Matu (shot put) and Muhammad Mahadi Muda (javelin and discus).

The school’s success underscores how a sports programme, when thoughtfully executed, can shape not only athletes but also leaders. With a solid foundation in character development, academic discipline and physical training, SMK Muara Tuang continues to prove that the playing field can be a powerful classroom for life.
