SIBU: SMK Sacred Heart once again proved their dominance by emerging as the overall champions in the boys’ category at the 59th Sibu Division Inter-Secondary and Primary Schools Athletics Championship.
At the championship, held recently at Stadium Tun Zaidi, they amassed 21 gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
SMK Sacred Heart also completed a clean sweep of the Boys’ Under-18, Under-15 and Under-14 titles.
Principal David Teo expressed his delight over the school’s outstanding achievement.
“I am immensely proud of our athletes for being crowned the overall athletics champions and achieving a remarkable clean sweep of the Boys’ Under-18, Under-15 and Under-14 categories.”
Teo said athletics has long been one of the school’s areas of excellence and the outstanding achievement was a testament to the dedication and determination of the athletes as well as the unwavering commitment of the teachers and coaches.
“We are especially proud of our 15-year-old Best Boy Athlete, Nicky Ong Siang En, who set a new Boys’ Under-15 discus record with an impressive throw of 46.77m.
“My heartfelt appreciation also goes to all parents for their steadfast support and encouragement. Congratulations to everyone involved for upholding our proud sporting tradition and bringing great honour to SMK Sacred Heart.”
Meanwhile, SMK Sedaya emerged as the overall champions in the girls’ category after winning the Under-18 and Under-15 titles while SMK St Elizabeth claimed the Under-14 title.
In the primary schools section, Zone Bandar Sibu emerged as the overall champions after winning both the boys’ and girls’ Under-12 and Under-11 titles.
