BETONG: The outstanding performance of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Saribas in the 2024 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) results proves that rural schools are capable of achieving excellence, not only in Sarawak but also at the national level.

Betong District Education Officer, Mohamad Lela Alamsah, said the achievement serves as a powerful inspiration that nothing is impossible.

“I truly hope this success sends a strong message that with effective leadership, quality and committed teachers, a culture of teamwork, and solid community support, nothing is beyond reach,” he said when contacted on Wednesday.

SMK Saribas, he said, has proven that rural schools can shine just as bright, having consistently placed among the top-performing Form Six centres in Sarawak in recent years.

On June 24, SMK Saribas was announced to have achieved a School Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.11, securing its place as the sixth best-performing school in Sarawak.

It is among six schools recognised as Top Performing Form Six Centres in the state, each with a GPA above 3.00.

A total of 41 candidates, or 65.08 per cent, scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) between 3.00 and 4.00.

Two students, Hanajiaa Patrick and Nur Aswar Yusri, achieved the maximum CGPA of 4.00.

Lela extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Form Six team of SMK Saribas for their consistent academic excellence.

“As a former principal of the school, I am truly touched and proud to witness the outcome of the school’s continuous effort to uplift and sustain academic excellence,” he said.

He added that the success reflects the deep commitment, discipline and fighting spirit of both students and teachers.

“I hope this achievement inspires other Form Six centres in the Betong District to strive together towards excellence,” he said.

He emphasised that such accomplishments should be the launching point for further improving the overall quality of education across Betong.

“Continue nurturing a culture of excellence, embrace MADANI values in education, and always prioritise student well-being in everything we do.

“May SMK Saribas remain a top-performing and inspiring Form Six centre,” he added.
