SIBU: The Sedaya Fighter Club (SFC) from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sedaya, Kanowit, created a sensation by showcasing an outstanding performance at the 8th Gewinn Malaysia Open World Taekwondo Championship held at KSL Esplanade, Klang, Selangor, recently.

A press release from SFC today pointed out that the club’s remarkable achievement, under the auspices of the Sarawak State Taekwondo Association (PTNS-MTA), has garnered widespread attention with a total collection of eight medals.

The team successfully brought home one gold, three silver, and four bronze medals, a truly proud accomplishment for the young athletes from Sarawak.

The prestigious championship, which was participated by various taekwondo clubs from several countries, including Korea, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Indonesia, served as an excellent platform for the SFC under the guidance of dedicated coaches, Hilary Tadong and Abang Nulang, to test their abilities and skills.

The SMK Sedaya athletes displayed their prowess in several events.

In the Speed Kick event, Danny Rash won a bronze medal in the 13-14 years old category.

Meanwhile, in the 15-17 years old category, Valentine Dian Senia clinched the gold medal.

The silver medal was won by Larryson Veronica, and Isaac Manja Peter completed the medal haul with a bronze.

Furthermore, the school team also shone in the Kyurogi (sparring) event for the 15-17 years old category.

Valentine Dian Senia, competing in the light weight division, added a silver medal to her personal collection.

Similarly, Larryson Veronica, in the heavyweight division, also won a silver medal.

Isaac Manja Peter secured a bronze medal in the bantam weight category, while Eric Mikhail Romeo contributed a bronze in the fly weight category.

The excellent achievement of the SFC not only brought pride to their school but also helped PTNS-MTA to win the overall Speed Kick and Poomsae (patterns) events, proving that the team from SMK Sedaya is a valuable asset in the development of the sport of taekwondo in the state.

“This success would not have been possible without the strong support from various parties.

“The management and athletes of SMK Sedaya extend their highest appreciation and thanks to the Ngemah Assemblyman, Anyi Jana, for the financial contribution that was provided to fund their travel and participation.

“The strong support from the SMK Sedaya school management also played a crucial role in making this activity a success. The assistance and cooperation provided made all arrangements easier, allowing the athletes to focus fully on their training and competition.

“The spirit of sportsmanship and close cooperation among all parties led to this glorious achievement,” the press release added.
