SMK St Elizabeth honours 223 outstanding students

SIBU: A total of 223 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Elizabeth here were given a standing ovation on Friday at the 2025 Annual Appreciation and Prize Presentation Ceremony held to acknowledge their outstanding achievements throughout the year.

Of the total, 210 students received academic excellence awards, while the rest received co-curricular awards and special recognition for their active involvement in the field of student affairs throughout the year.

SMK St Elizabeth’s Principal, Chee Hua Yiang, in her speech said the event was not only in recognition of successful students, but also in appreciation of teachers and staff who had contributed their time and energy in making various school programmes a success.

“This Annual Appreciation and Prize Presentation Day is not only a celebration for our beloved children and their achievements throughout the year, but also to recognise of their efforts and hard work throughout the year.

“Thank you to all the school staff involved, who have made the preparations so excellent, achieved great results with a great impact and formed a superior St. Elizabeth community.

“Not forgetting the tireless teachers who are always ready to face challenges, not only in school but also externally,” she added.

Chee also expressed her pride in the 32 outstanding SPM 2024 students who obtained at least 9As.

In addition, the school also presented the Sri Puteri Academic Eliza Award (Outstanding Achievement SPM 2024) to Chloe Ling and Tiong Kah Lin who achieved 11As in SPM 2024.

Also presented was the Sri Puteri Bakti Terbilang Award (Dr Teh Kok Chiong Award) to Cindy Hii, a student who stood out in leadership and contributions to the school.

Meanwhile, Chee expressed her appreciation to the main sponsors, including Dr Teh Lee Gek and Patrick Yii, who each sponsored special awards in the name of their late family members – Dr Teh Kok Chiang Award and the Mary Winifred Yii Award which were given to academically excellent students and students in need.

Appreciation was also given to the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the St Elizabeth Former Students Association (SEOSA) for their continuous contributions in making the Awards Day and school activities including the Talent Show 2025 a success.

The event was officiated by the Chairman of the St. Elizabeth School Management Board, Bishop Joseph Hii Teck Kwong.

Among those present at the event were the School Management Board Member, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, and the School PTA’s Chairlady, Hu Sing Hui.
