MIRI: A team of students from SMK St Joseph is participating in the international STEM competition, F1 In Schools.

The team, named Arleon, consists of three members: Malachi Ong (team manager and design engineer), Lois Lu (marketing manager and digital media manager), and Abang Aslan (manufacturing engineer).

During the regional finals, the team included a fourth member, Ahmad Azfar, who served as their marketing manager. Unfortunately, Ahmad had to leave the main team due to study commitments.

The team received support from the school’s teachers and alumni, with Wesley as the supervising teacher and Aleef as a mentor and alumni of the previous SMK St Joseph’s F1 In Schools team.

F1 In Schools is an international STEM competition aimed at changing perceptions of science, technology, engineering, and math by providing a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to explore careers in engineering, Formula 1, science, marketing, and technology.

In this competition, students use IT to study physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacturing, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership, teamwork, media skills, and financial strategy, applying them practically and creatively.

The competition consists of three levels: regional finals, national finals, and world finals. In the recent regional finals for Sarawak, Sabah, and Perlis held on Oct 28, the team emerged as the Sarawak champion among 12 teams, earning a spot in the national finals.

With their eyes set on the world finals, the team is determined to win the national finals as they move one step closer to their goal.
