SERIAN: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tebakang has produced respected and high-quality individuals across a wide range of professions over the past five decades, reflecting the strength and dedication of a rural school that has come a long way since its early years.
Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, who once served as a teacher at the school, said SMK Tebakang’s achievements are a source of pride not only for its alumni but also for the community it serves.
“So far, SMK Tebakang has produced three medical doctors, four PhD holders, two pilots, one lawyer and not less than 12 engineers,” he said.
He said this during the school’s Golden Jubilee Dinner last night (May 3), which brought together former teachers, students, and supporters to celebrate 50 years of the school’s history.
Riot described the celebration as a meaningful and nostalgic occasion, especially for former staff like himself who witnessed the school’s early development.

“When I was a teacher here, there were only 13 of us teaching fewer than 100 students. That was the scale we started with.
“From such a humble beginning, the school has grown into one of the best in the Serian district.
“Fifty years is not a short time, and I’m proud to say I contributed to SMK Tebakang,” he added.
Located within the Serian parliamentary constituency, SMK Tebakang is considered a rural school as it serves students from nearby villages.
Despite its setting, the school has built a solid reputation in academics and continues to perform well compared to other schools in the area.
To support the school’s continued progress, Riot also presented a contribution of RM20,000 during the event.
He expressed hope that SMK Tebakang will carry forward its momentum and continue to create its own legacy in years to come.
“I would also like to congratulate all parties who worked tirelessly to make this celebration a success,” he said.
