KUCHING: Smoked ikan lumek, a traditional seafood delicacy from Pulau Bruit, was spotlighted at the ongoing Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was presented with the smoked fish by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, today.

Abang Johari is also known to enjoy ikan lumek dishes.

Earlier, a total of 200 kilogrammes of the smoked ikan lumek, known for its rich flavour, were specially flown in to be distributed to state assembly members and department heads attending the sitting.

“This is not just a gift. It’s part of a serious initiative to elevate village products and showcase the potential of our coastal and agricultural produce,” said Abdullah, who is also the Semop assemblyman.

He noted that smoked ikan lumek currently fetches between RM80 and RM100 per kilogramme, depending on quality.

“The Premier also reminded me of the importance of the coastal road and bridge networks currently being developed.

“These infrastructures are vital in transforming the coastal regions into food production hubs and ensuring easier market access,” he said.
