KUCHING: A new coffee table photobook titled Snapshots of Sarawak has been launched to promote the state’s beauty, culture and identity through visual storytelling.

The publication features nearly 300 award-winning photographs by more than 70 professional photographers, portraying Sarawak’s people, landscapes and heritage.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the photobook allows the world to discover Sarawak through images that stir curiosity and pride.

“This book is more than just a collection of beautiful images, it is a tangible asset that showcases the rich culture, vibrant communities, and breathtaking landscapes of our beloved Sarawak.

“Beyond its artistic value, this photobook serves as a living archive — preserving cultural memories that may one day fade and honouring the diversity that defines us.

“For future generations, this book will stand as a lasting window into the Sarawak we cherish today,” he said this during the launch of the photobook, here today.

Snowdan also described the book as a valuable tourism asset that deserves a place in every hotel, government agency, and tourism establishment.

“Imagine international guests staying at hotels in Kuching, Miri, Sibu, or Bintulu flipping through this book on their tables, they’re not just looking at pictures, but understanding the real story of Sarawak. This is how we introduce our state to the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sibu Photographic Society president Peter Lee Pui Weng said the 300-page full-colour publication compiles winning entries from several state-level photography contests organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts between 2022 and 2024.

He said the book not only promotes tourism but also encourages appreciation for Sarawak’s identity and cultural diversity.

“Through this visual journey, we aim to inspire travellers from near and far to explore the hidden gems of our state and experience its unique charm,” he said.

The Snapshots of Sarawak photobook is an initiative by the Photographic Society of Sibu with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP).
