KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Chief, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, has announced that he will not seek re-election for the position of Youth Chief in the upcoming party elections.
Having served for three terms, spanning nine years, Snowdan made this clear when speaking to reporters today, following a PRS Supreme Council meeting.
He stated that it is time for fresh leadership to take the reins of the youth wing.
“I’ve held this position for three terms, which I believe is already too long. It’s an overstay,” he said, acknowledging that his tenure has nearly stretched into a decade.
“It’s time for me to make way for others who aspire to lead. I cannot hold onto this position forever.”
Despite his extended tenure, Snowdan stressed that his decision was driven by a sense of fairness to other members of the party.
“If there is a contest, we’ll contest. If there’s a compromise, so be it, but I will not continue as ‘Ketua Pemuda’,” he said.
“I must allow room for younger, fresh faces to take on the leadership.”
Snowdan further emphasised the importance of the younger generation stepping up and assuming leadership roles.
He expressed his desire to step down, and urged the party to begin looking for the next Youth Chief, one who will continue the work he has started.
