KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development will continue collaborating with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), particularly in addressing social issues.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, stated that such close cooperation between the ministry and the police has led to a high number of arrests, especially in tackling drug and substance issues in Sarawak.

Fatimah mentioned that for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, a total of 33,115 cases were recorded, with an arrest percentage of 1.32%.

She also added that the One Stop Committee in tackling drug and substance issues has increased to 42, with this initiative having started in 2018.

“The number of arrests and seizures has increased, so the public gains confidence from the police.

“Various community groups are now more willing to come forward to provide information and make reports.

“When reports are made and actions are taken, it builds confidence among the public about the efficiency and responsiveness of enforcement agencies regarding the reports lodged.

“That gives us confidence. Congratulations and well done to PDRM for this increase in public confidence,” she said in her speech during the Ziarah Sumbangsih Raya 2025 event held at the Sarawak Police Headquarters, Jalan Badruddin, today.

She added that the Sumbangsih initiative is one of the ways to acknowledge the contributions made by front-liners in safeguarding the sovereignty and security of the people, as well as ensuring public wellbeing during the festive season.

“We recognise the sacrifices and contributions of front-liners, enforcement agencies, and our security agencies,” she added.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mancha Ata, stated that a total of 2,400 packed goodies will be distributed to 28 district police headquarters.

He mentioned that the distribution will begin on Thursday, March 13, to be divided into three zones: Southern Zone, Central Zone and Northern Zone.
