SIMANGGANG: A total of 250 people received welfare aid during the Sejambak Kasih event held in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration here.

Organised by the Sri Aman Che Chuan Khor Moral Uplifting Society, the annual programme aims to ease the burden of the Dayak community ahead of the festival which is celebrated statewide on June 1.

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, said the food basket donations were made possible through generous contributions channelled via the society.

Harden, who is Simanggang assemblyman, expressed his appreciation to the society for consistently organising these events during major festive seasons in Sarawak.

“On behalf of the aid recipients, I would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Sarawak Government headed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for continuously supporting those in need,” he said when officiating at the event on Sunday.

At the event, a mock cheque for Minor Rural Project (MRP) funding worth RM20,000 was handed over by Harden to Sri Aman Che Chuan Khor Moral Uplifting Society Chairman, Temenggong Kueh Aik Seng, and another cheque for RM15,000 to Sri Aman Soon Heng Society Chairman, Tay Chiew Hua.
