KUCHING: The Sessions Court here sentenced a soldier to three years in prison for damaging his mother’s properties and causing losses amounting to RM 400 in July this year.
Milan Andrian, 26, pleaded guilty before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman to a charge framed under Section 436 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, he could be sentenced to jail for a term of up to 20 years and could be fined.
According to the charges, he committed the offence at his 48-year-old mother’s residence in Taman Desa Sejijak, Matang, at around 1.05 am on July 21.
According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the complainant (mother) was informed by her neighbour that her son was standing near the window of her house while holding a burning paper, which burned the window curtains.
The complainant then lodged a police report, which led to Milan’s arrest within a few minutes of the incident. She returned home to find that the fire had already been extinguished by her neighbour.
Examinations found that some books and window curtains had been burnt and the window glass was broken. The estimated loss was around RM 400.
It was understood that Milan had scolded his mother and he failed to control his emotions, which led to the incident.
Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim prosecuted the case while Milan was unrepresented by counsel.
