KUCHING: Kuching City FC Academy made a promising start to their 2026 Youth Cup campaign after producing a disciplined performance to hold Penang FC III to a goalless draw on Saturday (May 9).

Despite playing under the scorching afternoon sun, Joseph Kalang Tie’s boys managed to secure a valuable point in the opening fixture at Stadium Negeri, Petra Jaya.

“It was a good start for us to earn an important point after settling for a goalless draw in the opening match.

“We had chances to change the scoreline considering the opportunities we created,” said Joseph when met after the match.

He admitted that his players worked hard to deliver their best performance throughout the game.

“All the players carried out their duties and responsibilities very well,” added Joseph.

However, he acknowledged feeling slightly disappointed that the attacking unit failed to convert several chances in front of goal.

“I see the issue positively, and we will make full use of the one-week break to improve on that weakness,” he said.

The opening match saw both sides display balanced and competitive football throughout the encounter.

Each team created opportunities to break the deadlock in both halves, but neither side managed to find the finishing touch.

Kuching City Academy will next travel to face neighbours Sabah FC III in their second match of the campaign next Saturday.
