KOTA SAMARAHAN: The persistent issue of low water pressure in Taman Samarindah is expected to be resolved with the construction of a High-Level Water Tank, with an allocation of about RM30 million from the state government.
Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim said the project is currently at the stage of appointing a contractor.
He noted that Taman Samarindah is among the largest residential areas in Sarawak, with more than 5,000 housing units, resulting in significant strain on the water supply system, particularly during peak usage.
“The main issue we cannot avoid is low water pressure due to excessive usage. Therefore, at the Service Centre level, together with the state government, we have taken proactive steps to address this matter.
“The allocation has been approved for the construction of the High-Level Water Tank, and we expect implementation to commence this year,” he said during the Stakan Hari Raya open house at Stakan service centre Campus Hub on Sunday (March 29).
At the same time, Hamzah revealed that discussions have been held with the Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi to explore short-term solutions.
He said a proposal to install a temporary water tank is currently being studied as an interim measure to alleviate the low-pressure problem while awaiting completion of the main project.
“They have responded positively to the proposal and are now conducting a study.
“We hope this effort will help reduce the difficulties faced by residents,” he added.
Hamzah expressed optimism that both the short-term and long-term measures would bring relief to residents affected by the water pressure issue in Taman Samarindah.
