SPAOH: More than 2,000 visitors are expected to gather for the 100th anniversary celebration of Rumah Panjang Penom here on Aug 31 and Sept 1.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the celebration is expected to be attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said comprehensive coordination was crucial to ensure the two-day celebration runs smoothly, safely and in an orderly manner.
“The programme would begin with a traditional miring ceremony at 8am, with relatives and members of the community also taking part in activities throughout the celebration.
“The main event on Sept 1 is expected to draw more than 2,000 visitors, including invited guests and members of the local community,” he said in a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).
Uggah, who is the Bukit Saban assemblyman was chairing the second coordination meeting of the working committee for the centenary celebration at Rumah Panjang Penom on Wednesday (Aug 19).
The meeting, organised by the Betong Resident’s Office, was also attended by Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu.
Following the meeting, Uggah and his entourage inspected the helicopter landing site to assess its suitability and condition ahead of the celebration.
