KUCHING: A man was sentenced to 12 months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today (Nov 7) for threatening to harm his mother after demanding RM5 from her.
The accused, identified as Nurazan, 36, from Kampung Tabuan, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to a charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
He was found to have threatened his 71-year-old mother at their house in Kampung Tabuan at 12 pm on Oct 5.
Based on the facts of the case, the complainant, who was in the kitchen at the time, was threatened by her son with the words “mun ko sik berik duit, ko siap ku paluk ko” (if you don’t give me money, I’ll beat you up) after he demanded RM5.
Fearing for her safety, the complainant lodged a police report for further action and investigation.
Police investigations later found that the accused acted aggressively during the incident and also tested positive for drugs upon arrest. He also has two previous drug-related records.
Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution case while the man was unrepresented.
