SELANGOR: Sona Agon powered her way to another gold for Sarawak after lifting 94kg to win the women’s over-61kg para powerlifting final at Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 today (Sept 8).
The 37-year-old para powerlifter produced her best effort in the final to finish comfortably on top of the podium.
Her composed performance saw her maintain the lead against the challenge from the other competitors, with her 94kg lift proving enough to seal the top spot.
Selangor’s Rosnani Kasim took silver with a best lift of 80kg, while Pahang’s Melinda Tiong Zhing Zhing claimed bronze after managing 75kg.
Meanwhile, Sarawak’s Mohd Firdaus Affandi had to settle for silver in the men’s over-80kg category after lifting 130kg.
Firdaus was unable to match Perak’s Mohammad Akmal Danish, who secured the gold medal with a best lift of 137kg.
Johor’s Mohamad Azam Asmawi completed the podium with a 125kg lift to take bronze.
Sona’s victory boosted Sarawak’s para powerlifting haul, with Firdaus adding a silver to the State’s medal tally.
