KAPIT: A total of 50 community leaders and headmen (KMKK) from Song District were presented with new and renewed appointment certificates in an event held at the Song District Office here today.

Of the total, 34 longhouse chiefs (tuai rumah) were reappointed, 10 were newly appointed, while the terms of one Pemanca and one Penghulu were also extended.

Works Minister and Kapit Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who officiated at the event, congratulated the reappointed KMKK and expressed his appreciation to those whose services had concluded.

“To the newly appointed KMKK, I urge you to continue contributing towards the development of your respective areas and longhouses in the spirit of ‘segulai sejalai’ (togetherness), working hand-in-hand with elected representatives, civil servants, government agencies and departments,” he said on his Facebook post.

Nanta also reminded the KMKK of their responsibilities in ensuring that government plans and assistance reach the grassroots effectively.

“Each KMKK plays a crucial role in the chain of governance. It is vital that they carry out their duties with integrity and a strong sense of accountability.

“High levels of knowledge and leadership are also essential qualities for effective service,” he added.

During the event, Nanta and Katibas State Assemblyman, Lidam Assan, each announced a RM30,000 grant for the Song District KMKK Association, aimed at supporting its activities and strengthening the leadership institution at the local level.
