MIRI: More than 200 employees of Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd (SOP) and their families came together this week for the ‘Kasi Jadi’ Gawai Celebration 2025, held at the Gua Longhouse Chalet here.
The event, rooted in the spirit of unity and cultural appreciation, saw participation from SOP’s operations across Suai, Lambir and Niah.
The celebration opened with a traditional gong-beating ceremony, led by SOP’s Head of Sustainability, Galau Melayong, and Head of Support and Services, Joseph Ling Tiong Ing, alongside senior company leaders.
The gesture marked the beginning of a day filled with cultural expression, shared meals, and family-friendly festivities.
Guests were treated to captivating traditional performances by 1BeatStudio, which brought to life the rich cultural heritage of Sarawak’s indigenous communities.
A generous spread of local delicacies, reflecting the diversity of Gawai cuisine, added to the festive mood.
Children received ‘duit Gawai’, while games and lucky draws kept both young and old entertained throughout the afternoon.
“It’s wonderful to see our SOP family gathered like this, sharing joy, food and culture. Events like this remind us of what Gawai truly means: community, gratitude and new beginnings,” said Galau.
“Selamat Hari Gawai. May this celebration bring peace, good health and prosperity to all. Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai! Ohh Haa!”
The annual celebration is part of SOP’s broader effort to foster an inclusive workplace culture.
By championing traditions and hosting communal events, the company continues to cultivate a respectful and connected workforce that values diversity.
