BETONG: Ong Wei Jie of the Southern Zone delivered an outstanding performance to clinch the gold medal in the men’s criterium category at the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) IV 2026.

The race took place along the Pan Borneo Highway today (Feb 7).

Clocking a time of 1:15:43, Wei Jie showcased remarkable endurance and tactical skill to finish ahead of a strong field of 20 riders from across Sarawak.

His composed and powerful ride not only earned him top honours but also reinforced the Southern Zone’s prominence in the cycling competition.

Teammate Ong Zhi Jia followed closely to secure the silver medal with a time of 1:16:03, while Awang Faries Danish Awang Faizal completed the Southern Zone’s clean sweep by taking bronze despite finishing one lap behind.

The challenging course tested riders’ stamina and race strategies, but Wei Jie’s determination and pacing proved decisive in the final stretch.

The trio’s impressive showing outpaced strong contenders from the Western, Central, and Northern Zones, underscoring the Southern Zone’s strength in cycling.
