KUCHING: The Spanish national swimming team is enjoying a smooth training camp here, crediting excellent facilities and warm local hospitality as key to their final preparations ahead of the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

Technical Director, Santiago Veiga, said the team, that arrived on Sunday, has settled in well at their pre-competition base and will head to Singapore on Friday.
“It’s a great place for us, the facilities are excellent, the hotel is nice, and everything is very close by.
“The athletes are very happy and comfortable here,” he said in an interview with Sarawak Tribune today.
He noted that the athletes have adapted quickly to the time zone and are sleeping well, which is essential in the final stretch before competition.
“When we come to these holding camps, our goal is for athletes to adjust to the schedule as soon as possible. So far, the adaptation has been very good. They are relaxed, happy, and getting enough rest,” he said.

While the swimmers are sticking to a strict diet in the days leading up to the meet, Veiga expressed appreciation for the hotel’s cooperation in accommodating their nutritional needs.
“The hospitality here has been perfect. Everyone is trying to help us, both at the hotel and at the training venue. We feel very welcome,” he added.
When asked if he would return to Kuching, Veiga smiled and said he would love to bring his family one day.
“If I have the chance, I will definitely come back, hopefully with more time to explore. For now, we’re just enjoying the training and the great environment. I’d like to return to do some sightseeing and visit more places,” he said.
Spain’s delegation to Kuching includes sixteen swimmers and ten support staff.
The Spanish team is one of several international squads currently in Kuching for warm-up camps ahead of the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, which run from July 11 to August 3 and feature events such as water polo, open water, artistic swimming, high diving, diving, and swimming.
