KAPIT: The Sarawak government continues to strengthen human capital development as a strategic agenda to produce a highly skilled and competitive workforce capable of meeting future economic needs.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law and Native Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat said the initiative requires talent development to keep pace with technological advancement, digitalisation and increasingly dynamic industry demands.

He said young people must seize opportunities to enhance their knowledge, digital skills and professional competencies to remain competitive in the job market and contribute to the state’s development in line with Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“High-quality human capital development is among the Sarawak government’s key priorities. Therefore, youths must continue to equip themselves with knowledge, digital skills and competencies that meet the needs of future industries,” he said during the launch of the Mini Customer Engagement Day Programme by the Sarawak Public Service Commission (SPANS) 2026 at the Kampung Muhibbah Community Hall on Tuesday (June 30).

He added that outreach programmes such as this reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring public service delivery is more inclusive and accessible, particularly for rural communities.

Meanwhile, SPANS chairman Datuk Kameri Affandi said the programme not only provides opportunities for the public to obtain information on recruitment and career development in the Sarawak Civil Service but also serves as a platform for direct feedback on human resource management from government departments.

He said engagement sessions with heads of departments in the Kapit Division also discussed various improvement measures, including recruitment and placement of officers, competency development, human resource digitalisation, and efforts to strengthen public service delivery.

He added that such approaches are essential to ensure the state civil service continues to be strengthened through a more efficient, responsive and development-oriented human resource management system.

Throughout the programme, members of the public had the opportunity to learn about career opportunities in the Sarawak Civil Service, attend interview preparation briefings, recruitment briefings by grade, and receive information on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The programme also featured participation from various government agencies through exhibitions and service counters, including the Human Resource Management and Development Unit (HRDM), the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), CENTEXS, the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), and the MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme.
