SPAOH: The Spaoh Agrofest 2025, held at the Spaoh Riverfront, aims to strengthen and modernise the rural agricultural sector, particularly in the Betong Division.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the programme, organised by the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD), serves as a platform to introduce new technologies and approaches in agriculture, in line with the Sarawak government’s goal of making the sector a key economic driver.

He urged participants and visitors to make full use of the knowledge and skills shared during the event, especially on modern agricultural technologies.

“Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasised his vision for the people of Sarawak to enjoy high income by the year 2030.

“To achieve this, the agriculture sector must undergo a comprehensive transformation, including the adoption of advanced technologies and the involvement of youth,” he said during the programme’s opening ceremony, held at the Spaoh Riverfront here yesterday (July 26).

Uggah also mentioned that under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), various strategies have been outlined to boost the income of rural communities, including the development of an agro park adjacent to Spaoh with an allocation of RM200 million.

According to him, the project will involve the construction of 60 acres of greenhouses and will be supported by four major companies, aiming to increase the production of high-quality agricultural products capable of penetrating broader markets.

“In addition, the development of an agricultural produce processing centre and plans for a new airport in Betong are also being drafted to strengthen the agricultural supply chain and ease access to markets outside the region,” he added.

The same event also featured the presentation of the Successful Entrepreneur Awards to local entrepreneurs who have excelled in various agricultural fields with each receiving RM1,000 in cash, a trophy, and a certificate of appreciation.
