PETALING JAYA, Selangor: Members of Parliament (MPs) have been called out for failing to attend parliamentary proceedings despite actively voicing various issues outside the Dewan Rakyat.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Johari Abdul said such MPs were neglecting their responsibility of attending Dewan Rakyat meetings to represent their constituencies.

Reported by Kosmo, he said the MPs, at times, end up making statements that misled the public.

Furthermore, Johari added there were three types of MPs in the Dewan Rakyat – the good, the bad, and the worst.

“The good MPs are those who give all kinds of ideas that are solid and practical (in the Dewan Rakyat). The bad ones are those who just complain and they object to anything we say.

“But the worst MPs are those who don’t come to Parliament. They’re always not around, but outside, they depict themselves as leaders.

“They don’t go to Parliament but make lots of noise outside, issuing all kinds of funny statements that, in the end, risk threatening the nation’s harmony,” he said.

Johari did not name any MP in particular.

However, PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang (Marang MP), is said to have the lowest attendance records for the Dewan Rakyat proceedings.
