MIRI: A special committee has been established to coordinate and monitor the progress of Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) in Sarawak.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, disclosed this following a visit to the Highland Development Agency (HDA) office here on Tuesday.
The committee, chaired by Dr Abdul Rahman, will comprise representatives from all RDAs, as well as key central agencies such as the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU), the Sarawak Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU), and other relevant ministries and departments.
Formed to address challenges and streamline reporting, the committee aims to enhance coordination and ensure timely execution of projects across regions.
RDAs were created to fast-track development by allowing regional steering committees to approve projects independently, with implementation carried out by technical agencies and local authorities.
Dr Abdul Rahman stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration and urged implementing bodies to ensure projects are delivered on schedule.
He also directed contractors issued with Letters of Appointment (LOAs) to begin fieldwork within 30 days, with agencies tasked to enforce compliance.
Among those present were HDA Regional Director Juan Ubit, SIMU Director Sapiah Daud, EPU representative Florida Gala James Mijien, Construction Management Manager Edward Mathew, and HDA’s Head of Socio-Economic Planning Fadzil Asri.
