SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chief, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, urged all Sarawakians to download the SPay Global mobile application.
This is to enable them to receive special financial assistance provided by the Sarawak government and other policy initiatives.
He said that his team organises several mobile service sessions each month, either at local coffee shops or by visiting rural communities door-to-door, to help the public address various issues, including problems related to the SPay Global mobile application.
“Of course, we also came across individuals wishing to apply for the Sarawak government’s household aid of up to RM800 (SKAS), as well as the RM1,200 education allowance for Sarawakian students pursuing tertiary education.
“All of these forms of aid require the use of a smartphone, where applications can be made through the SPay Global app,” he said at a mobile service session conducted at Soon Huat Cafe, Jalan Tukang Besi here today.
He said that today’s outreach mainly focused on assisting senior citizens who have yet to apply for the Kenyalang Gold Card and the RM500 Senior Citizens’ Health Benefit (SCHB).
Lau added that he believes the Sarawak government’s approach of using the app is aimed at ensuring that financial aid is spent appropriately.
“The RM800 household assistance, for example, can only be used to purchase essential items at designated shops,” he added.
On SKAS, he said that the SKAS assistance is divided into three groups: single individuals (with income below RM2,500, eligible for up to RM250), families (with household income below RM5,000, eligible for up to RM800), and senior citizens (from households earning below RM5,000, eligible for up to RM400).
“These forms of aid can only be used at specific supermarkets to purchase household necessities.
“We also hope that children of senior citizens who have not yet applied for the SKAS household assistance will help their parents apply as soon as possible, so they can receive this support and ease their financial burden,” he added.
