SIBU: In an effort to appreciate the services and sacrifices of nurses, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) announced a special travel package initiative for nurses from the Ministry of Health (MOH) who are working in Sibu and Bintulu.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, revealed that the special travel package is now being offered to the nurses, including return flight tickets from Sibu or Bintulu to Kuala Lumpur at a special price of only RM138.
“Apart from offering cheap flight tickets, nurses also have the opportunity to enjoy discounts of up to 15 per cent at 19 selected hotels in Peninsular Malaysia and Sibu.
“This is a token of our appreciation for our healthcare heroes who have worked tirelessly day and night,” he said at the Launching Ceremony of the Nurses Special Travel Package during the Nurses’ Appreciation Dinner 2025 held at a leading hotel here on Saturday.
According to Tiong, who is also Bintulu Member of Parliament, the period to book this package is from September 1 to 30 this year while travel can be made from September 1 to December 31, 2025.
He explained that the nurses only needed to use the promotional code ‘Malaysia68’ and submit their respective nurse code numbers when making a booking.
In this regard, he said that his party was currently holding discussions with the Director-General of MOTAC to extend the offer to doctors and pharmacists working in Sibu and Bintulu.
“But don’t worry. Shortly, I will return (to Kuala Lumpur) and instruct my Director-General (MOTAC) so that all groups including doctors and pharmacists are also given attention in the same package that will come,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Tiong also called on all frontline health workers to maintain their patient, calm and professional attitude, especially when facing challenging situations with patients and their family members.
“Emotions among patients and families are normal but as health workers, we need to be a source of strength and calm to them,” he said.
Touching on the malaria case in Sibu, he represented the residents in asking the Health Department to deal with this problem appropriately by taking drastic action to control this outbreak.
“I request the Health Department’s help to spray to control mosquitoes and prevent the spread of malaria. Hopefully, the health authorities can take appropriate action,” added Tiong, who is also Dudong Assemblyman.
Also present were Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker, Alice Lau Kiong Yieng; Sibu Divisional Health Officer, Dr Teh Jo Hun; Sibu Hospital Director, Dr Nanthakumar Thirunavukkarasu; and other invited guests.
