SIBU: A total of 128 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2024 high achievers from SMK Methodist here received education incentives from Bukit Assek assemblyman, Joseph Chieng here on Tuesday (May 6).
According to Chieng, the recipients are those who achieved 5As and above, with a total incentive of RM44,600 given out.
“I am so proud of you. I want every student to remember this: every achievement matters, and every effort counts. What’s most important is your commitment to learning and your determination to reach greater heights,” he said during the presentation ceremony at the school hall.
“To all awards recipients, congratulations! Your hard work has eventually paid off. But remember, this is only the beginning of your journey. Keep pushing forward, keep aiming higher. And to those who did not receive an award today, don’t be discouraged. Learn from the experience, keep improving, and your time will come.”
Chieng said this year, a total of 269 SPM 2024 high achievers in the Bukit Assek constituency will receive incentives totalling RM97,000 compared to 233 high achievers with incentives amounting to RM85,900 last year.
He introduced this incentive programme in four secondary schools in Bukit Assek constituency, namely, SMK Methodist, SMK Sacred Heart, SMK Bukit Assek, and Catholic High School in 2022.
“I hope this incentive not only provides financial support but also serves as a symbol of encouragement, reminding every student that their efforts matter and their dreams are worth pursuing.
“Through this programme, I aim to inspire students to believe in themselves, persevere through challenges, and embrace learning as a lifelong journey, while fostering curiosity, courage, and a commitment to making a positive impact.
“Let us continue working hard in hand to build a community where education is valued, excellence is celebrated, and every child has the opportunity to shine,” Chieng added.
Among those present were SMK Methodist Board of Management chairman, John Ting, SMK Methodist Parent-Teacher Association chairman, Ting Wei Ping and SMK Methodist principal, Philip Ling.
