SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch carried out Chinese New Year (CNY) goodwill distribution activity initiative together with four Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) on Saturday.
The four JKKKs involved are Bukit Igu, Sungai Sadit Kiri, Sungai Sadit Kanan and Bandar Sibu.
The team led by SUPP Bawang Assan Branch chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie visited several ferry terminals, namely Public Works Department (PWD) Government Wharf, Hock Ming Wharf and New Ma Ling Wharf.
Mandarin oranges, red packets and festive decorations were distributed to residents commuting by ferry to and from the western bank, as well as members of the public in town.

The activity created a lively and heartwarming festive atmosphere along the riverfront.
Also present were Penghulu Wong Ung, Penghulu Steven Tiew, Penghulu Yong King Sung and Kapitan Tan Ching Teck, who joined in extending CNY greetings to the public.
Speaking at the event, Lau, who is also SUPP Youth Central chairman, said the joint initiative between rural and urban community leaders aimed to personally convey festive blessings to the people in conjunction with the upcoming CNY.
“CNY is a season of reunion, gratitude and renewal. We hope that through this meaningful activity, we can personally deliver our blessings and share the joy of the celebration with the people,” he said.
He added that as a grassroots political leader, it is important to not only focus on development and community issues but also to stay close to the people, especially during festive seasons.
“This is not merely about distributing mandarin oranges and red packets. More importantly, it gives us the opportunity to interact face-to-face with residents, listen to their feedback and strengthen community ties while sharing the festive spirit together,” he said.
Lau also wished all communities good health, happiness, success and prosperity in the coming year, expressing hope that unity and mutual respect would continue to strengthen harmony and development in the area.
The organising committee had earlier made thorough preparations for the event, including the purchase of mandarin oranges and festive decorations, coordination of distribution points and logistical arrangements to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.
