KUCHING: Squad Rhinos were crowned as the king of Liga Setia Raja MuFA 2024 (LSRM 2024) after a narrow 2-1 final match victory over My Team at Padang Mesra MDDM last Saturday.
Squad Rhinos took the lead after Badrul Hafiz Mohd Isa secured a goal with a clinical strike in the 45th minute.
Although My Team secured an equaliser through Paul Sambang’s goal in the 45th+2 minute counter, the situation shifted back to the Rhinos’ favour after Mohd. Haisal Yusif scored a definitive penalty in the 62nd for the win.
This victory marked Squad Rhinos’ second league win after they bested My Team with a parallel 1-0 final match win in LSRM 2023.
Following their win, Squad Rhinos were rewarded with a cash prize of RM10,000, a oscillating trophy, a commemorative trophy, and medals, while My Team, as runners-up, received RM6,000 in cash, a trophy, and medals.
Prior to the final match, the kick-off ceremony was officiated by Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.
The Mukah MP also contributed a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant totalling RM36,000 to the Mukah District Football Association (MuFA) for future activities.
My Team’s star player, Paul Sambang, who scored 21 goals throughout the tournament, was crowned as the top scorer of LSRM 2024. Meanwhile, Squad Rhinos’ defender, Nazrul Abdil Samad, received the Best Player Award for his performance in the final match.
Both players were awarded cash prizes and trophies in recognition of their respective achievements.
Various competitions were held throughout LSRM 2024, including best photography and videography contests, as well as a competition to design a new logo for MuFA.
According to UKAS, over 2,000 spectators attended the final match where a lucky draw was also held for the attendees.
Also present at the event were MuFA president Khairul Anuar Adeni, Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip and Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias.
