SIBU: The Environment and Public Health Standing Committee Chairman of the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, visited Rumah Joseph Jarrau in Tanjung Bekakap on Friday to inspect the proposed site for a parking area construction project.
According to Lau, the visit followed a request made earlier by the longhouse residents, who had sought assistance from the council to build a parking area near their community.
“Therefore, I brought along the SRDC team to the site to conduct an inspection and discuss the overall feasibility of the plan,” he said in a press statement on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Joseph Jarrau expressed his gratitude to Lau and the council for considering the application for the parking area project.
“We are in great need of a parking facility, as the existing space in front of the longhouse is very limited.
“With a parking area behind the longhouse in the future, it will provide space not only for residents but also for visitors, especially during festive seasons and communal gatherings,” he said.
Earlier, on March 27, Lau, who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch Chairman, along with several SRDC members, visited Rumah Joseph to listen to the concerns and needs of residents within the Bawang Assan State Constituency.
