SIMANGGANG: The community in Sri Aman has demonstrated a strong desire to work together to support anyone in need of emotional and mental help.
Acting director of Sri Aman Hospital, Dr Sim Poh Ling, noted that this reflects the community’s awareness that mental health is as important as physical health.
“Without mental and emotional balance, it is impossible for a person to live a meaningful and productive life.
“Thus, during the National Counseling Month Celebration at Sri Aman Hospital this year, we observed a strong desire among the community to better understand, accept, and support those who need emotional and mental help,” he said.
He made these comments at the event’s inauguration ceremony yesterday.
He explained that the role of counsellors and community support is vital in creating a healthier, stronger, and more resilient society.
Throughout the open counseling sessions, mental health talks, exhibitions, and interactive activities, participation was successfully attracted not only from hospital staff but also from the surrounding community.
Dr Sim urged all parties to strive to be a caring society, looking after not only their own well-being but also supporting those around them.
The celebration, themed “Determination of Empathy, Human Well-Being,” began on Sept 25 and culminated yesterday. Sri Aman Hospital’s Psychological Counseling Unit organised various activities and programme focusing on the importance of mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Among these were Wira Wangsa (two series), Air Clay Therapy, Awareness Therapy, an online Pop Quiz, Tipah Tertipu 2.0, a Psychological Training Camp, Psychological Exploration 2.0, a Sexual Harassment Act Webinar, and Customer Meet Day.
The focus was not only on raising awareness about the role of counseling but also on instilling values of empathy, love, and support in the community.
“I hope that all the knowledge, experiences, and memories gained throughout this month will be remembered and put into practice.
“Hopefully, this celebration will serve as a catalyst for larger initiatives in promoting mental health in Malaysia,” he said.
Chief assistant medical officer Willian Cannon Essau, chief nursing supervisor Winnie Wong, and head of administrative unit, Susan Belayong were also present.
