SRI AMAN: The Sri Aman Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) held its first Preparatory Meeting for the Hot Season to coordinate readiness measures in response to prolonged hot weather.

Sri Aman DDMC chairperson Mahra Salleh said the meeting was essential for aligning emergency response plans involving various agencies to address the risks of forest fires, haze, and water supply disruptions, following the identification of several high-risk hotspot areas.

He also emphasised the importance of cooperation from community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK), plantation operators, and local communities in reporting any minor incidents that could escalate into major disasters.

Sri Aman DDMC proposed the use of fast reporting systems and the latest technologies, including communication apps, air quality monitoring, drones, fire risk assessment systems, and weather forecast data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).

The meeting also recommended the implementation of public awareness campaigns on the prohibition of open burning, along with community education efforts to ensure comprehensive preparedness throughout the hot season.
