KUCHING: The post-mortem results of a couple found dead at Taman Mutiara, Sri Aman, have confirmed that both victims died from stab wounds.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the post-mortem was conducted on Jan 15 at the Forensic Department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“The male victim was found to have 11 stab wounds to the neck and chest, while the female victim sustained stab injuries to the neck.
“The causes of death were confirmed as neck and chest injuries due to stab wounds for the man, and neck injury due to stab wounds for the woman,” he said in a statement today.
Zainal added that so far, 21 witnesses, including family members, neighbours and colleagues, have been interviewed as part of the investigation.
“The investigation is ongoing and being carried out professionally, transparently, and based on forensic evidence and witness statements,” he added.
He said the motive behind the killings is still under investigation and urged the public not to speculate or share unverified information that could disrupt the inquiry.
Police also appealed for the privacy of the victims’ family to be respected during this period.
Investigators have assured that all leads will be pursued as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.
Earlier reports said the couple, both civil servants, were found dead in their home. The 45-year-old man was a headmaster at a primary school, while his 44-year-old wife was a nurse.
The couple left behind three children, aged nine, 16 and 17.
Sri Aman district police headquarters (IPD) was alerted to the incident at around 6.55 am, prompting police officers and paramedics from Sri Aman Hospital to be dispatched to the scene.
Initial examinations confirmed that both victims had died at the scene due to severe injuries.
Zainal said the case is being classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
