KUCHING: The Silent Run 5.0 is set to return in 2026 to empower deaf athletes while mobilising participants across four locations in the state to raise funds and promote social unity.
Organising chairman and Sarawak Deaf Sports Association (SSDeaf) treasurer Victor Hii said the fun-themed run is organised by the SSDeaf to unite the deaf and hearing communities through an inclusive sporting platform.
“The Silent Run 5.0 promotes inclusivity, raises awareness of the deaf community, and strengthens social unity regardless of race or religion.
“It serves as a fundraising effort to support deaf athletes locally and internationally while also increasing public understanding of deaf sports and the meaningful assistance they need.”
Hii said this—his speech was interpreted by Grace Ong—during a press conference at the Sarawak Society for the Deaf building on Monday (Dec 8).
He added that part of the net proceeds will be channelled into the SSDeaf fund to support the association’s operations, including the training and participation of elite deaf athletes in local and international competitions such as Sukan Orang Pekak Malaysia (SOPMA), the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation (APDSC) Games, and the Deaflympics.
Among the athletes benefiting is Siong Mui Hong, who won a silver medal in the individual singles and gold medals in doubles and triples in tenpin bowling at the 2nd SEA Deaf Games in Jakarta, Indonesia and recently returned from the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan.
“The run is open to everyone, including deaf individuals, members of the hearing community, families, students, organisations, and corporate groups.
“Participants may choose between 3km and 5km distances.
“The public can support the run by registering as participants, volunteering, becoming sponsors, or helping to promote the event through social media and community networks,” Hii added.
He added that the 2026 event will take place in four locations – Bintulu on May 10, Miri on May 24, Sibu on June 14, and Kuching on June 28.
“SSDeaf is targeting 2,500 participants in total.
“Together, let us run in silence and stand in unity. Your participation is not just a run, it is a step towards a more inclusive and empowered community.”
The registration fees range from RM10 for bib only to RM50 for a package, including T-shirt, medal, and bib, with early bird promotions available until Jan 31, 2026.
