THE Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Phase 2 is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2029, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
In his Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (May 28), Uggah said construction works for SSLR Phase 2 have commenced across all packages, involving site clearing, earthworks, and drainage works.

“As of April 2025, the overall physical progress stands at 0.93 per cent. Meanwhile, SSLR Phase 1 has reached 52.27 per cent completion and remains on schedule to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026,” Uggah said.
On the Trans Borneo Highway, he said the Miri section is currently in the design stage and is expected to be finalised by the second quarter of 2025.
“Tendering is scheduled for the third quarter of the same year. For the Limbang and Lawas sections, procurement proposals have been submitted to the Ministry of Works Malaysia, with contract awards anticipated in the first quarter of 2026,” he said.
Uggah also updated the august House on Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak’s role as a Technical Department recognised under Treasury Directive 182 (AP182) in 2023.
“The agency is currently implementing 213 federal-funded projects worth RM3.29 billion.
“Of these, seven have been completed, 22 are under construction, and 184 are at the pre-contract stage,” he said, adding that the bulk of pre-contract projects are still in the preliminary or design stages.
