LIMBANG: The Sarawak-Sabah Link Road Phase 2 (SSLR2), a 335-kilometre project linking Miri, Limbang, Lawas and Ba’kelalan, was officially launched at Nanga Medamit today.
It was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof also present.
Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) said the SSLR2 project, once completed, would not only ease connectivity between Sarawak and Sabah but also improve safety, comfort, and economic opportunities for local communities.
“Residents will have an alternative route between Sarawak and Sabah without passing through international borders.
“It will also provide safer and more comfortable road access for rural communities who have long relied on logging roads as their main route.
“The new road is expected to create more economic opportunities, especially in agro-based industries and eco-tourism, while promoting social inclusion and strengthening national unity,” it said in a statement.
Approved by the federal government in 2023 with an estimated cost of RM7.15 billion, the project is scheduled for completion by June 2029.
It builds on SSLR Phase 1 in Lawas, which began in 2021 and had reached 57.6 per cent progress as of July 2025.
SSLR2 project is divided into four main packages to ensure timely delivery.
Package 1 covers Mulu to Long Seridan (65 kilometres), Package 2B from Long Napir to Nanga Medamit (108 kilometres), Package 3 from Long Luping to Long Komap in Ba’Kelalan (63 kilometres), and Package 4 from Rumah Aling to Long Luping (99 kilometres).
