SIBU: The Sarawak Sago Manufacturers’ Association (SSMA) and the Sago and Nipah Development Board (SNDB) recently held an engagement session at a prominent hotel here, bringing together key players in the sago manufacturing sector.
The event served as a platform for industry stakeholders and SNDB officials to discuss challenges, exchange ideas, and strengthen cooperation for the sustainable growth of the sago industry.
In his welcome address, SSMA chairman Danny Ling noted the importance of the session in fostering collaboration with SNDB.
He said the engagement was an opportunity to explore ways to support the growth of the sago sector in a manner that benefits industry members, rural communities and Sarawak’s broader economy.
Meanwhile, SNDB general manager Zaidell Hussaini reaffirmed the board’s commitment to advancing the industry.
He stressed SNDB’s ongoing efforts to enhance coordination, promote the use of technology and develop a fair pricing mechanism for sago logs.
He expressed confidence that continued cooperation would enable the sago industry to become more competitive and sustainable.
The session featured a briefing on current industry developments, a presentation by SNDB and a discussion and feedback session involving all participants.
One of the key highlights was SNDB’s initiative to establish a standardized and transparent pricing model to benefit all players across the value chain.
The event concluded with a call for continued engagement between industry stakeholders and government agencies to ensure the sago industry remains viable, innovative and a driver of rural economic growth in Sarawak.
