KUCHING: St Joseph’s Private Schools will present their biennial variety concert, “Rhythm and Colour: Wonder – Seeking Truth, Goodness and Beauty,” on Aug 2 to 3, at Dewan Majma Kuching.

The event is held in collaboration with the Sarawak Arts Council (Majlis Seni Sarawak, MSS) under the MySeni scheme, part of efforts to promote and nurture local arts and culture.

This immersive concert will showcase the diverse talents of students from St Joseph’s Private Primary School, St Joseph’s Private Secondary School, and St Joseph’s International School.

These performances foster community spirit, life skills, and teamwork as part of a holistic education, rooted in the rich tradition established by the La Salle Brothers, who ran St Joseph’s School in the 1950s and 60s.

Each concert carries a unique theme, and this year’s creative director, Benedict Lo, explained the choice of the butterfly as a symbol of wonder.

“The butterfly is familiar to all of us, yet it evokes a sense of awe, especially in young children.

“The performing arts can inspire reflections on truth, goodness, and beauty, instilling a sense of wonder we hope our audience will experience during this event.”

Lo added that participating in the concert allows students to develop creativity and imagination while working towards building a better future together.

Audiences can look forward to an impressive line-up, including the award-winning SJPS Chamber Choir and St Joseph’s Private Primary School Choir, both Gold Award winners and Grand Prix Finalists at the recent Sarawak International Choral Festival.

Musical highlights include performances by the SJPS Concert Band, SJPS Chinese Orchestra, and SJPS String Ensemble, alongside captivating dances by the Ballet, Cultural, and Contemporary Dance troupes.

A new school block featuring modern music and dance studios is currently under construction to secure the future of the performing arts at the schools.

Proceeds from the concert will go towards the school’s building fund, ensuring that future generations of students benefit from a thriving arts environment.

Tickets for the concert, priced at RM50, RM80, and RM120, can be purchased online from Cloudjoi at cloudjoi.com.
