
BETONG: Sarawak Timber Association (STA), in collaboration with the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA), has chanelled a total RM1.2 million in aid to various schools in the State since 2012.
According to PUSAKA general manager Hashim Bojet, PUSAKA and its subsidiary companies have been carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities from time to time for the last 20 years.
Since 2012, STA through its subsidiary STAM had been working closely PUSAKA to channel fund to needy schools, especially those in the rural areas.
“We have channelled a total of RM1.2 million to schools in Mukah, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang, Lawas, Betong, Sibu and Sarikei,” he said.
His text of speech was read out by PUSAKA assistant general manager Hamzah Morshidi who represented him at the STAM and PUSAKA aid presentation ceremony to schools in this district on Wednesday night.
The aid was meant to assist the needy schools, especially those affected by timber operations in their areaa.
“With this assistance, we believe that we can enhance learning among the students so that they will continue to strive for excellence,” he said.
At the function, seven secondary and 47 primary schools in the district received assistance totalling RM129,000.
The secondary schools each received RM5,000 while the primary schools each got RM2,000.
Meanwhile, Betong District Education Officer Supian Ekeram said STAM and PUSAKA’s CRS programme had a positive effect on educational development in the district.
Among those present at the function were Bujang Ladi, a representative of Betong Resident, Sharifah Norolah Wan Ahmad, PUSAKA Corporate Communications Manager and Teresa Aji, a representative from STAM.
