KUCHING: Political stability and racial harmony must be safeguarded if Malaysia is to stay resilient and competitive in the years ahead, said Sarawak Business Federation’s (SBF’s) Secretary-General, Datuk Jonathan Chai Voon Tok.
He urged Malaysians not to take unity for granted, adding that constant politicking should be kept out of the political ecosystem.
“My hope is for our economy to remain resilient and competitive, supported by a business climate that encourages innovation, attracts investment, and ensures growth is inclusive across both urban and rural areas.
“More importantly, every Malaysian should not take our racial harmony for granted. We must maintain political stability and keep politicking out of our political ecosystem,” he told Sarawak Tribune in his Malaysia Day message.
He said strengthening Malaysia’s competitiveness requires regulatory efficiency, policy consistency, and greater ease of doing business. He noted that government policy decisions must also be sensitive to their impact on costs.
“At the same time, we must invest in talent development, digital infrastructure and sustainability initiatives, while ensuring SMEs, the backbone of our economy, have the support they need to grow and expand into regional markets,” he added.
On the role of the business community, Chai said companies can contribute more effectively by embedding responsible practices, nurturing entrepreneurship, upholding environmental stewardship and working closely with government and civil society.
“By focusing on competitiveness, inclusivity and sustainability, Malaysia will be better positioned to seize opportunities in the decade ahead,” he said.
