KOTA BHARU: The Social Welfare Department (SWD) hopes every state can have a sales stall or Welcart in the effort to boost the economy of target groups such as the handicapped and SWD aid recipients.

Its director-general, Mohd Fazari Mohd Salleh said SWD knew these groups could make numerous products but needed marketing support.

‘’For a start in this state, we have a co-operation with the Tesco supermarket which provides one kiosk to sell the products of the disabled.

‘’In addition, we also receive the same proposal for the Tesco supermarket in Klang, Selangor and Sungai Petani, Kedah in the effort to help the groups,’’ he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the Director-General of Social Welfare Incorporated (KPKMD) Welcart here yesterday.

Also present were SWD (Plannin and Development) director Wan Noraidah Wan Mohd Zain, Kelantan SWD director Said Sidup, Kelantan Co-operative Commission of Malaysia director Amran Abdul Kadir and Tesco (Malaysia) Kota Bharu general manager Koh Siuew Luan. – Bernama
