SARAWAK will continue to invest in high-impact research and development that supports science, technology and innovation with strong potential for commercialisation.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government has invested RM18.3 million in 80 research projects across biotechnology, renewable energy and green industrialisation through the Sarawak Research and Development Council.
“To further support these initiatives, RM4 million will be spent on research projects next year,” he said when tabling the 2026 State Budget today.
For 2026, Abang Johari said the state government will allocate RM50 million to continue the construction of Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre and RM22 million for its operations.
As for the Sarawak Science Centre, RM48 million will be provided for its completion and another RM8 million for its operations.
“A further sum of RM11 million will be provided to support various disease and research programmes,” he said.
Abang Johari said allocations are also provided for other research and development initiatives, including RM36 million to Sarawak Biodiversity Centre for its operations and ongoing R&D initiatives; RM26.6 million to CRAUN Research for its operations and ongoing research; RM5 million to Sago and Nipah Development Board; and RM4.4 million to Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute.
